  • PRACTICAL support, a postnatal timeline,  cord care, whose looking after you, newborn checks and tests and adjusting to life as a family

Our workshop will prepare you for what you need to know before you bring your new bundle of joy home.

We know that it’s a very exciting time, but it can also be tiring and overwhelming. In this class, we'll discuss what you can expect during the first few days at home with your newborn.

We’ll cover your health after the birth and what you need to do to look after yourself. And of course, you’ll have a whole new tiny human to look after too.

We’ll talk about learning to understand why your baby cries a lot during the first few weeks. This is their way of communicating with you and letting you know that they need something. It may take some time to figure out what your baby needs, but with practice, you'll soon become an expert at deciphering their cries.

We’ll also touch on what you may need to do to prepare your home for your new baby. We’ll discuss what constitutes safe sleep - and you can think about where your baby may sleep and what you’ll need to stock up on essentials such as clothes, muslin cloths, nappies and wipes as well as food and supplies for you and your partner.

Of course, newborns also tend to sleep a lot, but not always when you want them to!  Remember that babies have very different sleep patterns than adults. They will likely sleep for short periods of time throughout the day and night, waking up frequently to feed. This can be exhausting for new parents, but it's completely normal. It's important to take advantage of any opportunity you have to rest and recharge.

There’s plenty of time later to establish a routine that works for you and your baby, but remember that it may take some trial and error.

Many new parents find that a combination of feeding, nappy changes, and soothing techniques such as baby massage can help to create a routine of sorts.

It's normal to feel anxious about whether or not you're prepared enough but rest assured that you'll figure it out as you go along.
