Labour and Birth Part 1

Description Duration: 60 minutes This class is suitable for expectant parents and birth partners. This class is best completed with Labour & Birth Part 2 You're about to embark on one of the most incredible journeys of your life. While pregnancy can be exciting and magical, and having a baby is a wonderful and life-changing experience, it can also be a little daunting, especially when it comes to labour and birth. Don't worry though, at Blossom, we’ve got you covered. We’ll talk about contractions, the rhythmic tightening and releasing of your uterus that help to move your baby down through your pelvis and out into the world. We’ll cover how you can tell the difference between the real thing and the practice Braxton Hicks tightenings. You’ll learn how to familiarize yourself with the signs of labour. These can include contractions, a "show" of blood or mucus, and your waters breaking and what you need to keep track of these signs. We’ll talk about how your body is built for this and all the hormones that make it possible. We’ll cover assessment by the midwife or doctor to determine how far along you are in your labour. You’ll learn more about your amazing pelvis and the extraordinary work your body does. And once you’re in established labour, it’s important to stay as calm and relaxed as possible. This can help with the progression of labour and make the experience more manageable. Part 1 covers: How the body works in labour (first, second and third stage) How you can help yourself to have a positive experience - positions and movement. How to tell if you are in labour - when to call or go to the hospital, Home Birth, Birth Centre or Delivery Suite - how to decide! Making decisions in labour Crucially of course, there will always be plenty of time to ask questions, as we know that there’s a lot to take in. If you are more than 38 weeks and haven’t had access to antenatal classes, please email us and we will try and get you on our next class What mums to be say:- "I absolutely loved sharing stories with other mums and the Blossom team - can't wait for more classes!" "It really gave me a boost - so grateful!" NB: For consistency, we would suggest that you do Part 1 before Part 2 and book Part 2 for the same night the following week as it will be led by the same teacher.
