Duration: 45 minutes
Yoga is the perfect postnatal exercise to gently restore your strength after pregnancy and childbirth, however your baby was born.
We will focus on:
Take a moment - or 45 minutes, - to catch your breath, calm your mind and revatilise your body. Give yourself the gift of a short break to reset and recharge your batteries enabling you to continue the joyful, stressful, wonderful and exhausting job of parenting a new baby!
This class focuses on yoga for the new parent - babies are of course very welcome, we would love to meet them! And if you need to feed, change or cuddle your baby, that is fine. If you can time the class with your baby's nap or when someone else can take care of them for a while so you can fully participate - that's great too.
Our Postnatal Yoga classes are run by the wonderful Gillian Holmes.
Gilian is a birth and postnatal doula, an antenatal teacher and a mum of three. She has run pregnancy and postnatal yoga for over ten years face to face and since 2020, online too. Gillian is a huge believer in the importance of community and her classes are very relaxed, warm and friendly - always starting with an introduction round so you can get to know the other participants.
When can I start?
We recommend taking this class anytime from 6 weeks postnatal. Modifications will be offered for people in the 'fourth trimester' that is babies under 4 months as well as for anyone who has had a caesarean birth in the last six months.
What if I haven't done yoga before?
Whether you've taken part in pregnancy yoga with Blossom, elsewhere or not at all - this class will be suitable and accessible for you. Forget any preconceptions you may have about having a 'yoga body' or not being flexible enough: if you have a body, you can do yoga - flexibility is a by-product of yoga and not a prerequisite for it!
What else do I need to know?
Before you participate in Postnatal Yoga, please ensure that you have completed the required medical form accessible below. All you will need is enough space to stretch out, a yoga mat is ideal but not essential and any other props eg. a cushion or blocks to sit on - all to ensure you are as comfortable as possible. It would be good to make sure you are wearing something you can move easily in and ideally bare feet or socks.
