Pregnancy Yoga

Duration: 60 minutes

Yoga for Pregnancy is a wonderful way to prepare for the birth of your baby.

However you’re planning on having your baby these sessions will help you relax, stretch and breathe and leave you feeling refreshed and rested.

You’ll learn:

  • breathing techniques that could help you cope with contractions when you’re in labour.
  • understand how to listen to your body which will help you when it comes to the positions you may want to choose for labour.
  • practise positions and relaxations shown to improve women’s experience of birth and to increase wellbeing in pregnancy.

Yoga-based exercises can maximise your chances of having a straightforward birth and they can also be enjoyed by those planning a Caesarean birth.  Researchers in the UK have studied the effects of yoga on pregnant women, and found that it can reduce the risk of them developing anxiety and depression

Participants often report improved comfort in their bodies and better quality of sleep. Anxiety and stress is reduced through the gentle union of mind, body and breath.

Our pregnancy yoga classes are run by the wonderful Harriet Symon

Harriet is a mother of 3 and has been faciliatating yoga classes for 20 years having studied with Françoise Freedman at Birthlight. She loved discovering the power and joy of woman practicing together in a circle and supporting one another. "I have had the priviledge of working  with hundreds of women and families over the years both in yoga practice, birth preparation and as a doula supporting families through the transition from pregnancy to birth and early mothering".

This nurturing hour uses yoga, breath work and relaxation to stretch the body, gently  strengthen the core muscles, prepare for birth, aid sleep, manage anxiety and benefit your overall well being at this special time.  This session, suitable for anyone from 12 weeks of pregnancy onwards, is kept to 60 minutes so that it’s a lovely way to end your day.

When can I start?
The class is recommended at any time from 12 weeks pregnancy onwards.

What if I haven’t done yoga before?
That really does not matter—now is a good time to start! Yoga is a really good form of exercise to do during pregnancy as it doesn’t put too much strain on your joints. It has also been shown to reduce anxiety and to help women stay calm in pregnancy and labour.
